The Story of Somali Luubaan
Frankincense is Somalia's ancient gift to the world. For thousands of years, the resin of the Boswellia tree — luubaan — has been harvested by hand in the mountains of Somalia and carried along the world's oldest trade routes.
Ancient Egyptians sailed to the Horn of Africa — the fabled Land of Punt — to bring back frankincense for temples and ceremonies. Somali luubaan perfumed the ancient world.
For centuries, Somali frankincense — beeyo and the prized maydi — traveled to Egypt, Rome, Arabia and India, making the Somali coast a center of the global incense trade.
Harvesters still tap the Boswellia trees by hand, collecting the dried "tears" of resin as their families have for generations. In Somali homes, uunsi and bakhoor still scent every celebration.
We carry this heritage forward — turning raw Somali luubaan into modern custom fragrances, crafted in Somalia and personalized for you.
How We Produce from Somali Luubaan
Source the Luubaan
We select premium Somali frankincense resin, hand-harvested from Boswellia trees and graded for purity and aroma.
Clean & Prepare
The resin tears are sorted and cleaned, preserving the warm, smoky-sweet character of authentic luubaan.
Extract & Blend
We draw out the fragrant heart of the resin and blend it with fine perfume oils to create our signature scents.
Craft the Product
Perfumes, bakhoor, uunsi, diffusers and air fresheners are produced and filled locally in our Mogadishu workshop.
Personalize & Package
Your name or image is laser-printed directly onto the bottle, then finished as a gift set ready to delight.
